Located on the border between Los Angeles County and Ventura County, Westlake Village is a master-planned community, two-thirds of which has been annexed by the city of Thousand Oaks. The area boasts a variety of parks and recreational areas, including the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, a sprawling natural setting for local hikers, mountain bikers, equestrians, and outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds.

Westlake Village was originally a planned community conceived through a partnership between the American-Hawaiian Steamship Company and Prudential Insurance Company. It was designed to convey a “city in the country” aesthetic, with commercial areas, residential enclaves, plus a lake and greenspaces as the focal point. Here you’ll still see this emphasis on the natural world and outdoor living reflected in the area’s homes and lifestyles.

Westlake Village was part of one of the first Spanish land grants in the late 18th century, and later became part of Alta California after the War for Mexican Independence. After California was admitted to the US, the Russell brothers purchased a large tract of land for cattle ranching in the late 19th century. Subsequently, William Randolph Hearst bought much of the area before selling it again in the mid-1940s. It was then used for both cattle ranching and movie ranching, and many iconic Western films and television shows were filmed in the area.

Westlake Village offers a variety of home styles, from Craftsman to Colonial, Mid-Century Modern to Mediterranean Revival. Here you’ll find integrated indoor and outdoor spaces, allowing you to bring the natural beauty of the area inside.
