Nestled between downtown Los Angeles and the Malibu coastline you’ll find Newbury Park. Lying within the Conejo Valley and set against the Santa Monica and Conejo Mountains, this enclave within Thousand Oaks offers a variety of residential communities spread out before an idyllic natural backdrop. Surrounded by open space wilderness areas, Newbury Park is a unique wildlife corridor and is home to Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, the nation’s largest urban park.

Newbury Park encompasses arts, culture, and historical interest along with outdoor spaces designed for adventure. Here you’ll find Satwiwa Native American Indian Culture Center, dedicated to the area’s earliest Chumash Native American settlements, along with the Stagecoach Inn, a landmark that reflects the area’s Wild West past and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The area has also been the setting for a variety of iconic television and film productions, including many Westerns filmed at neighboring Wildwood Regional Park.

The area was originally named for Egbert S. Newbury and his wife, Fannie, who named their ranch “Newbury Park” because of its natural beauty and park-like landscape. The area was known for its healthful climate, and the Grand Union Hotel (later called the Stagecoach Inn) capitalized on this reputation, originally branding itself as a “health and pleasure resort” both for locals and for travelers stopping over on their way to the coast.
